The short answer is no. The proof is here: http://www.cars.gov/

Go through the menu options for your car. I did it. Your mileage is already too good.

The people that said the program is cancelled for lack of cash are not up to date on the story. It IS still going. They approved more money for it.

Some irrelevent comments while I'm typing: One of the biggest reasons to do this was to help the car companies. One of the funny things about that is - honda and toyota are getting as many clunkers as anyone, maybe more. Oh well. Not their fault for making good cars and managing their companies well.

If this program were only about getting better mileage, you'd qualify if you found higher mileage. There are cars out there that do better than an old accord. You aren't eligible at all though - so that's actually not the true motive behind the governments program.

If the goal were to clean up the air, it would be independent of mileage, and the really old cars would be eligible was well - but they aren't.

This is a good program for people to get back some of the tax money they've paid in, but it's basically just the government spending money they didn't have.

i dont think it hurts to ask because i was wondering myself if i qualified. i think though its meant to get cars with bad gas mileage off the road.
Well it has to run, and it has to have like 9 miles to the gallon or something, and if you hurry, u may get into the program, because it's just about out of moneyI have a 1994 HOnda Accord. Would it be qualified for the Cash for clunker government program?
most of the time some older cars even a Honda can began to use more g as per mileage than the specified when they were new I would ask . I have a 1996 corolla and i know it is using more gas than years ago.
