What type of engine does my stock Honda civic have? This car is a D16, but your VX has a VTEC engine head. It's called a VTEC-E. The difference is that the VTEC-E is designed more for economy whereas the other VTEC heads are designed more for power. You should be getting around 40 mpg on the highway (or more) with this one. Honda just discontinued the HX around 2008. My take is that they discontinued it because it delivered Civic Hybrid economy for thousands of dollars less. In fact, on the open highway, it delivered better gas mileage than the hybrid. What type of engine does my stock Honda civic have?
The B or D you refer to are most likely the Vin code and can be found on the dash in the lower portion of the driver side windshield.
