What kind of oil should I put in a 1982 CB450SC Honda NightHawk?

My Father own's a Honda NightHawk and he's running low on oil, and I've searched the Internet all over and can't find the answer. Any feedback would be helpful. :)What kind of oil should I put in a 1982 CB450SC Honda NightHawk?Everyone has an opinion on oil. That said, on my motorcycles I'll avoid any oil that isn't specifically labelled for motorcycles. Some oils will be better for some engines than others. On a bike as dated as yours I wouldn't bother with a full synthetic for example. This wasn't what was common at the time and thus isn't what the bike was designed to run on.

Car oils (like valvoline) are great for cars but not for motorcycles with wet clutches. Some oils contain additives which can add to clutch slippage on motorcycles, etc. Avoid car oils.

I would use a 10W40. Good all around, and motorcycle oil can be had easily without a lot of hunting. I would go with a dino oil or a semi synthetic depending on the condition of the bikes, seals, etc. What kind of oil should I put in a 1982 CB450SC Honda NightHawk?10W40 for summer 10W30 for spring and fall. People argue about witch brand is better, the truth is most oil meets or exceeds manufactures specifications and warranties. What kind of oil should I put in a 1982 CB450SC Honda NightHawk?Valvoline is the best oil to use. What kind of oil should I put in a 1982 CB450SC Honda NightHawk?
