I want to convert a 1997 Honda Prelude into AWD with a 2JZ engine swap. Any suggestions on how I should go about doing this? How hard is it to convert a 1997 honda prelude to AWD?You'd have to build it all custom. The 1997 Prelude has a transverse Honda FWD engine, and the 2JZ was a longitudinal Toyota RWD engine that came in Supras and SC300s. The 2JZ never came in anything with AWD, and the Prelude was never, in and of itself available with AWD.
The only way I could think of to do it would be to get the AWD trans, transfer, diffs and suspension from a Nissan Skyline and mate the 2JZ to it, and then hack everything up to fit in the Prelude unibody. It'd basically be about the dumbest way to spend $250,000 bucks I can think of.
To do an AWD Prelude (still dumb, why waste money making a fat Prelude AWD when you could do a Civic or Integra?) you're way better off adapting a Honda AWD setup like what came in the CRV or the AWD Acuras and then figuring some way to mount the rear diff cradle in the Prelude. Custom axles, control arms, and driveshafts are still necessary at that point.
For the money invested you could have a ridiculously fast 300Z/RX7/Supra, and if you're really stuck on AWD get an Eclipse GSX / 3000GT / WRX / EVO.
