Is it normal to put midgrade every third tank of gas in a 95 honda civic running at high compression?

in order to help the transmission or engine. The service advisor at a Honda dealer told me this. He also mentioned to stay away from gas stations like Arco and Costco because they burn fuel faster and will result in lower mpgs. Is this true also? And if so how many mpgs will be lost to purchasing gas from these places? Is it normal to put midgrade every third tank of gas in a 95 honda civic running at high compression?Using different grades of gas will have zero effect on your transmission. None at all.

For the engine, you use whichever grade has an octane number sufficient to prevent detonation. For most cars, this will be regular grade. If your engine uses higher compression, it might require medium or high grade gas to prevent detonation. If the motor is stock, use whatever grade the owner's manual asks for. Using a higher grade than required simply wastes money - you won't get any more power out of it (higher octane fuel is actually harder to burn, and releases less energy per gallon than regular). Is it normal to put midgrade every third tank of gas in a 95 honda civic running at high compression?Read the owner's manual -- which almost certainly says use regular gas, and should be believed. I use Arco almost exclusively, because it is the least expensive. The stuff contains 10% ethanol, which on the basis of the chemistry would get slightly worse gas mileage (by less than 3%) than straight gasoline. There is no need to use higher grade gasoline in any car unless needed to control knock, pinging, or other pre-detonation ills -- and in no event will it have anything to do with the transmission. See also first response, which is correct. Is it normal to put midgrade every third tank of gas in a 95 honda civic running at high compression?Does it run o.k. on 87? If yes, stick to regular. It is a waste on $ to buy a higher grade than what the car runs correctly on.Is it normal to put midgrade every third tank of gas in a 95 honda civic running at high compression?
AT TODAY'S HIGH PRICED GAS PREMIUM AT$ .20 MORE IS A BARGAIN IT WAS $.20 BACK WHEN GAS WAS $1.20 -$1.30 A GALLON . YOU WILL GET BETTER MILEAGE OUT OF 93 OCTANE , SO IT IS WORTH IT .
