Is there any way to make my Honda engine faster?

I have a 2008 honda accord coupe. Supposedly it has the same exact engine a the acura tsx 2.4 liter vtech. Now is there any way to tweak the engine and make it just as fast?Is there any way to make my Honda engine faster?I see this question asked several times on Yahoo Answers every day. What you are saying is that I bought this cute little wing pinger economy car and I hate the doggy performance.

This is an economy car. It is built for fuel mileage, not for speed.

So you have two choices here.

First choice:

Start with the trendy simple bolt-ons like the ever popular cold air kit and a fancy muffler only to realize that you spent a lot of money on stuff that didn't really do all that much. You can then add some fancy spark plugs and some cool looking spark plug wires, maybe a computer programmer, only to discover little or no more gains also. You then will come to the realization that if you want any noticeable improvements you are going to need to spend some serious money. Change the pistons, cams, have some larger valves installed, have some port work done, change the computer, add a turbo. By now you may even be considering an expensive engine swap. Now you are getting into some serious cash. You are also starting to discover that the transmission, clutch, differential, and other driveline components aren't up to the task and things are starting to break. Your so called reliable little foreign car isn't all that reliable any more. So you need to throw some money at these things also.

Or

Second choice:

Sell this little four banger economy car. Take the money from the sale, add to this amount the several thousand dollars that you were going to spend on modifications to your wing pinger economy car and buy something with a V8. Maybe something like a 2000's Mustang GT or Camaro Z/28. From the start the Mustang GT or Camaro Z/28 will be quicker and faster than this little economy car could ever hope to be. The Mustang or Camaro will be more reliable because it will come from the factory with drive line components matched to the more powerful V8 engine. You will have a platform that takes well to performance upgrades. You will find that there is a huge amount of aftermarket performance parts available for a Mustang GT or Camaro Z/28.

If you want something fast, don't screw around. Buy something that is fast to begin with. It takes very little to get a V8 Mustang or Camaro to do 12's in the quarter. It would take several thousand dollars to get a little 4 banger economy car into the 12's. Spend several thousand on modifications on a V8 Mustang or Camaro and 10's are possible. Is there any way to make my Honda engine faster? While I agree with Mad Jack to an extent, he didn't count the fact that some cars, like the 6 speed V6 accords and Maximas and Altimas, will run low 14's stock in the 1/4, and that's for front wheel drive sedans. Second, An Accord isn't an economy car, it's just an average midsize sedan. Third, cars like the Subaru Impreza WRX STi and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Mazda's Mazdaspeed3 are economy cars of sorts, but it will also, with the right driver, run high 12s bone stock (or in the case of the MS3, with just a few well chosen modifications). Also, it would take several thousands of dollars to run 10s in a mustang or camaro, and as fast as it would be, it would make for an uncomfortable daily driver, given the fact that an 8 point roll cage is required when you get to 10.99, and there is a lot of safety equipment necessary for that. Also, not everyone wants straight line speed only, and just because a part doesn't add a lot of top-end power, doesn't mean it did nothing. There are many parts that can give only a 1-2hp increase at peak, but can give as much as 15hp at 4000rpm, which will make a tremendous improvement in the fun to drive factor. Ultimately how fast you want to go, depends on what you want to do it in. Also, he was talking about making an Accord as fast as an Acura TSX (which is just the european Accord, FYI).

Now, for the issue at hand...I looked up the 2008 Accord coupe 2.4 and the 2008 TSX, and here's the specs I got:

Accord: 190hp@7000rpm, 162ft-lb@4400rpm, 3221lb curb weight,

TSX: 205hp@7000rpm, 164ft-lb@4500rpm, 3257lb curb weight.

So, given this information, the TSX has an extra 15hp, 2ft-lb and carries an extra 36lbs. Ultimately, if both cars were auto, or both cars were manual, they would run identical times just about in the 1/4 mile, with a difference between .05 seconds or so, or about an 8-12 foot difference at the finish line. If it was absolutely necessary to get them to be identical, or your car slightly faster, a cold air intake could get the job done, as could a reflash. I don't know if they offer it for the Accord, but try contacting Hondata and see if their TSX flash would work on your accord. Is there any way to make my Honda engine faster?Of course. If you have the money, and the will, theres a way.

Do a google search.

start of with the basic I/H/E (Intake, Header, Exhaust)

If you want to go balls to the wall, go turbo. Is there any way to make my Honda engine faster?
