What's the best kind of car speakers/bass to install in a 1994 Honda LX?

I bought a used 1994 Honda, and the speakers are terrible. Hardly and sound, nor bass for that matter. Do all speakers work for all cars? 6x9's for the rear speakers are perfect! they produce mid bass.
