Can I Use Synthetic Oil to My 2002 Honda Accord?

My 2002 Honda Accord recommends that I use 5W-20 regular oil. If I use synthetic oil, is it gonna improve performances? If yes, what performances? 5W-20 is required no matter what brand / quality oil you choose. My 2001 Accord uses Royal Purple or Valvoline SynPower, both are full synthetic and work great.
